Most supermarket hot sauce is $8 per quart or less, Tabasco $42-48 per quart
I just bought some Crystal hot sauce, a common Louisiana brand and I was noticing the price difference in these supermarket Louisiana hot sauces and Tabasco
I like Tabasco but it was just hitting me that price difference. The 12 oz Crystal was $2.99
The small Tabasco is only 2 oz an that was $2.99 also, outrageous. Slighty better deal on the bigger size $42 per quart
instead of $48
trick: add some extra hot pepper powder to the Louisiana and a small pinch of garlic

Crystal is different. Lots more vinegar, and little or no aging compared to tobasco. (I like both, but for different reasons.)
If all you want is hot, then powdered red pepper is cheaper than both by a mile. However, "hot" is a religious war, so other than the above, I'll retreat and pop some corn.

This is not necessarily a valid comparison since food prices do not scale by size. Generally speaking, the larger a container weight or volume, the lower the price per unit of measure.
In fact, at my supermarket, a quart of milk is the same price as a half gallon. For a while there, a quart cost more than a half gallon.
It is frustrating that people in small households or single people are penalized when they buy smaller units, while the "Family Size" containers cost significanlty less per weight or volume.
Tabasco has successfully marketed their sauce internationally but everything comes from Louisiana. The high price per quart must be all about the branding, the name.
Guess people like it or think they do, I think it's one of the worst hot sauces going and always comes with bad heartburn.

It's not a penalty it's supply and demand economics
I look at the per quart on the shelf. The 2 oz was $48 per quart
The 5 oz is $42
a little different
On Amazon there's a big plastic jug of it, 64 oz
for $33.26
but there will be shipping on top of that
But shipping aside diving that in half we get the quart price $16.63.
It's a big savings although a regular bottle of Crystal in it's 12 oz size is priced
at a rate that is about half that about $8
I won't commit to 3 years worth of Tabasco to get the lower price

I also noticed Tabasco has a Scorpion type now, 20 times hotter than original
That would be good to cut one of these less hot brands with, and if you dont use that much you can keep it just slightly hotter

I like the flavor. You can taste the aging more. I don't think it's all hype but a lot of it is
The hot pepper sauce aficionados see all these average sauces as too wimpy as for heat
Franks Hot Sauce for me.
