MY DH's mom still has a bunch of that "old" stuff too that she uses from the 60's and 50's - even her decorations. I'm not "into" vintage stuff, but when I see things that my grandparents had and used it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
We bought a Flavia from BB&Beyond a year or so ago - nice machine. No coffee actually gets brewed *in* the machine, so it's low maintenance as far as cleaning goes.
This is the one we have.
We also have a small 6 cup coffee pot for when I gotta have my Folgers! But I use it maybe 2-3 times a month.
I have a proctor silex brew station. the kind where you only have to push the button with your cup under and it fills. no pot. i love it and it works great. i clean my coffee maker with bleach, it works great. leaned that from my grandmother. she always used bleach and it came out really clean. i have used bleach for years and i haven't found anything that works nearly as good.
That's interesting about the pinch of salt. I think I might give it a try! Thanks!

My sister-in-law used to make the meanest cup of coffee around with her little $10 Mr. Coffeemaker. Her trick was she put a sprinkle of salt in with the grounds prior to brewing. I don't have a clue what that does, but her coffee was awesome. Now that I have a GE stainless steel maker, with a built-in grinder, I put her to shame, without the pinch of salt. It's all about the Dunkin'.
Help-These things don't last long. And we do clean with vinegar once in a while. I don't drink it much but husband has to have it daily. What brand have you been happy with-doesn't need to be large. Thanks
I would have never spent the $100 or so that this coffee maker costs, I got it as a Christmas present, but after using this one, I could never go back to the $10 cheapo models I used in the past. The coffee comes out perfect and never burns.
I have an ancient coffee maker -- I believe it's a Regal -- inherited from my dad's office and probably purchased sometime in the mid-80s. Still works like a champ.
