We had an explosion of mom and pop pizza places start up in the late 40's and early 50's after WWII. These are primarily owned by Italian and Sicilian immigrants. Nothing else compares, they are in a class by themselves. Many are combined with lake taverns or small bars.
We are never hurting for the good stuff, that's for sure.
That sounds so good, I wish we had something like that out here!
The problem with franchises or big chain pizza places is that, sooner or later, the bean counters are in charge. They start cutting corners, and pretty soon you're eating junk.
The smaller, locally owned places can be better, for sure.
If I'm having pizza, it is going to be made in a brick oven -- preferably wood fired and extremely hot. Otherwise it is very unlikely that I'm going to receive anything which could properly be called "pizza."
It's pizza. It isn't "greasy wet blanket of dough the size of an Amish quilt topped with fake cheese, sugary sauce, and enough sliced meat to open a deli." New York and Chicago squabbling about pizza is like two Sumo wrestlers squabbling about which of them looks more like a Victoria's Secret lingerie model.
That's odd....do you just not like it or are they not cooking it properly?
I agree. Costco pizza is about the worst pizza that i have had. First, they cheap out on the ingredients. Then, it is not in the oven long enough to be cooked fully through. Finally, it sits there too long.
Sam's Club is generally a lot better, but not great.
Yes! Mom and Pop always makes better pizza. I hate the chain restaurants, they already have the dough shipped in, everything is shipped in. Mom and Pop's make the best pizzas.
