LIKE: the weather in December and January, the palm trees

DISLIKE: the mannerless, arrogant people and the horrible, rude drivers, fast/slow, doesn't matter, the majority of the drivers here are the worst in the country!! Moved here 23 yrs ago and still can't get used to it and it's gotten so much worse. When I can, I'm heading to the central coast outa here..had enough.

Well, idk if u guys think a racist governor with ties to wht supremacy whose gov't staff takes bribes and even ICE officials are being investigated for kiddie porn is a big deal... but it kinda ruin S. Florida for me. Hope I'm not just being too "picky", though.

To Floridaa...you are being rude...and I don't care if people have asked the question before...hopefully I steer clear of you if we end up down there...you must be one of the "RUDE" people the other posts are talking about...keep your nasty comments to yourself.
And to the rest of you, thanks, we are still trying to decide!

Default A bottom line truth with the likes saved til the end.

Dislikes:

-Job market. People grovel for low paying, dead end jobs here. Retail, hospitality and teleservices are the only avenues unless you know someone. It promotes the whole...

-"scam" mentality that permeates from desperate entrepreneurs. All kinds of fraud i.e. mortgage industry, pill mills, practicing medicine without a license, local businesses selling the same cheap products and services, its rampant. We made one of these...

-the Governor. He is looking to run the state as a plutocracy. A staunch tea partier, he has Republicans scratching their heads. Our economy has taken a battering since after Hurricane Wilma, and I fear he's the grim reaper. We are already next to last in funding for education, and he wants to bury it to the ground. He is going to blast a bigger gaping hole between the haves and have-nots than there ever was.

Likes:

- Everything looks new, no other way to say it. The sunshine showcases the glittering new construction, greenery and water. Other places I've visited are gray, dusty, gritty. Obviously we have grimy parts here, but when you are in a good part of town, the scenery is just... luscious.

- Streets are laid out simply. Getting around is simple and if you know alternate routes, it shouldn't take you too long. We don't have loops and alt roads and thistown-thattown road, becomes thattown-theothertown road etc.

- Year round outdoor activities. Beaches, fishing, fastpitch softball (which I coach), water sports, golf. I love how I can take my kids to play baseball or ice skating whenever I feel like it. There's always something to do. From Jupiter to Key West, there's parks, canals, four major sports teams, colleges, restaurants (of all genuine diversities), concert/music arenas, festivals.

My thoughts on some popular choices:
-The weather. You know what you get. The summers aren't as bad once you get used to them, its just the length of summer and the hurricane warnings. That bothers me, but not to "dislike" it.
-The drivers. I've been in one accident here in 20 years of driving, when I guy ran a red light and plowed into me. It wasn't fun, but I count my blessings as I do hear of other's misfortunes. But I can't say I "dislike" driving down here. Most people that complain about other drivers are usually the ones that are "road-ragers" anyway.
-The diversity. I love it, but I can see where it may bother some. Natives mostly, but I consider myself a native that it doesn't bother. Live and let live. We all have bad days.

I hate EVERYTHING about florida.I was never attacked until I came down here. The weather, the medical help is terrible unless you have money of course, everyhing costs more and the attitudes ofpeople here s discusting. They think they are better than people living elsewhere.Whoever calls this place is either mentally challenged or just plain selfish as so many are down here. I would give ANYTHING to go back north or west-anywhere is better than here.My name is Lois and if I had the money Id be gone next week.

To the OP, have you considered the Tampa Bay area? It's a little slower paced, more folks from the midwest instead of New York, (not that there's anything wrong with being from New York) and quite a few Canadians.
