Hello! I am looking to move to Hollywood Florida. I am looking to move close to downtown area..does not have to be downtown though. I am having a VERY hard time finding a place that will allow my dog. I have a pitbull who I have had since he was 4 months old.. now he is 4.. he is the sweetest dog but the places i have found...the association complex will not accept pitbulls. PLEASE HELP ME FIND AN APARTMENT COMPLEX/CONDO THAT WILL ALLOW MY DOG. They are not banned for broward county so i have faith that i can find a complex that will allow him. People are telling me to say he is an "american bull dog" but i do not want to lie. Thank you soo much... please Moderator cut: contact me through Direct Message

Hi, I am usually a lurker in these forums but I saw your post and wanted to try and help. I'm a New Yorker... will be relocating to South Florida within the next few months, I feel your pain. We have a 4 year old German Shepherd and even though I see her as harmless, you can never fully predict an animal's actions, plus hundreds of irresponsible pet owners everywhere have ruined any chance of us with so called "dangerous breeds" to find suitable housing along with our four legged friends. My family owned a very sweet pitbull while I was growing up, but that being said, I wouldn't walk in an area heavily populated with them, unfortunately these days they are bred for the wrong qualities instead of their origionally admired traits, and fall into the wrong hands. Do not say he is an american bulldog, in my opinion they don't even resemble that breed. You can call him an American Staffordshire Terrier, that is the proper American Kennel Club name, and your basic pitbulls you see everyday are a result of poor quality street breeding. Am. Staffs were origionally bred to look after family children due to their loyalty and intelligence, I've been to many dog shows and you would be amazed to see these dogs. They look like pitbulls on steroids, extremely muscular with massive heads, BUT, they have been produced from top bloodlines and are wonderful, good natured family dogs. It may be a challenge for you finding nice housing, but not impossible. Maybe try scoping local newspaper websites or craigstlist ads, you may have better luck renting from a personal landlord than a larger complex that may not allow dogs of any kind. I wish you luck and enjoy Florida!! :-)

No apartment complex will accept your pitbull. Your other options are private homes with small four or six units rentals or a small house - look online. It is not going to be easy. You might even try something like a rescue group who may have leads that can help you.
