Cutler Cay in Palmetto Bay (miami) is a really great neighborhood. I visit it a couple times a month on appointments.

I spoke to a client recently which he had high regards pertaining to schools in Pinecrest. He mentioned A ratedschools.

Traffic from the gables and Pinecrest unfortunately is pretty terrible either way. Make sure you get your sunpass! Hopefully you can avoid the 826, absolutely terrible!

He'll be heading towards the airport. I think 826 is avoidable, right?

It all comes down to what you can afford really. Pinecrest and Coral Gables are pretty expensive but worth it in terms of schools and prestige. Yes, there will be traffic, but you won't be in it for long because of the shorter distances. Closer than Broward, you may look into Doral and Miami Lakes. In general, what you'll find in South Florida is small areas that are somewhere between city/suburb (mostly in Miami-Dade), surrounded by vast suburban sprawl (much more vast in Broward). You really only find "City" in downtown Miami, Brickell, and Miami Beach.

What is your rental budget? Commuting from Southwest Broward to MIA-area actually takes about the same amount of time as commuting from Palmetto Bay, and slightly longer than commuting from East Kendall, South Miami or Pinecrest. Coral Gables and Coconut Grove are much, much closer and even though traffic will be heavy commuting from those areas, it won't take long. All of the Miami-Dade areas I've mentioned are nice and have many families living there; I don't think western Broward is overall better for families unless you're specifically looking for new, gated communities with clubhouse/recreational facilities. If you are, look into Weston. Several forumers live there or have lived there in the past and can give you more specific information than I can about the neighborhoods and rental prices.
