Virtually anywhere in the US is more intellectual than south Florida. There is an anti intellectual bias here that is stunning.

Default Yes, it really is that bad.

There is a certain anti-intellectual mentality where it is cool to be uneducated and street wise. Your kids could be the best, smartest kids with great intentions, but they'll be forced to toughen up to the South FL lifestyle. Everyone is trying to best everyone else. You see it on the roads every day. There is always someone trying to drive faster than you, drive a nicer car than you, cut you off, and beat the next light. People don't care about one another. People don't say hello to strangers here. If you are a stranger, you may as well be an enemy combatant.
I agree with you completely. We currently live in a "nice" area and in the past year, my car was stolen from the driveway and our house burglarized.

Our house is on the market, and I'm really looking forward to getting out of here.

not exactly..i know friends at UM WHO ARE VERY smart and future doctors...I just think its the generations of immigrants not schooling their kids on smartness and respect that's whats ruining south fla..if these guys would accommodate to the American lifestyle and not stick to their original country's lifestyle then down here would be sooooo much better.

Don't get me wrong, I love it here in Fort Lauderdale overall I suppose because I'm still young and don't have kids. I live further east near the beach so life is good. But I do experience all of South FL's problems when I go to other parts of Broward and especially Dade County. I think the main problem is that people are just very nasty towards one another. In other places of the U.S., people talk to strangers and are more social outside of their small group. Here people don't want to get involved with others outside of their immediate group unless there is some good reason.

Well I'd have to give NYC at least the edge on intellectualism. That is a major difference between these two areas.

I do not agree. The bling bling party party culture is pervasive and does not apply to only immigrants.
