It went from a mostly white retirement area in the 70's to a gigantic metropolis with crime, drugs, bad traffic, and an ever increasing immigrant influx.
I know quite a few well-educated young professionals don't like it here. Place attachment is personal experience and it varies greatly. I consider myself young and I have a strong hate/love relationship with S FL more than any other places I lived. Ultimately it becomes a balance between how much you love and how much you tolerate. On the other hand, I'm becoming like many others, rude, cutting people off when driving, honking and yelling at strangers who offended me, and be nice if people treat me well. There are always good and evil but it's just a bit intimidating for people who are not used to living in a diverse large metropolitan area with 5.6 million people.

Like me! I have been living here all of my life and I dislike it so much. Fortunately I have seen other parts of the country (never lived, only visited) and I see how different things are there. I am not saying everything is all roses anywhere you go besides here but I am losing patience with many things that are going on around here.
