Hi all,

I'm about to move to a job in Ft. Lauderdale next to the tri-rail stop on Cypress Creek road. I just graduated from college, and do not yet have a car, so I will have to commute via bus/rail for a little while until I can get one. I figure I can spend up to $1500/mo on rent and utilities (less would be better). Given all that, what would be good areas/specific apartments to rent from which are close to tri-rail/bus lines?

I live off Cypress just west of that area. There are townhomes and rentals around Cypress and 31st Ave. (Palm Aire Village) and you could actually take the bus to work or ride a bike when it's nice. Some of the smaller loft-style townhomes in Lofts of Palm Aire go for around $1300 or so; it's a nice community. Then there are some apartments and townhomes just north of this area off 31st (Lyons Road) which are probably lower priced.

I still wouldnt imagine you could make it without a car down here. But if you live on the same bus line where you work, you can certainly save gas and time. And you can buy a higher miles car for less $$$$ and avoid adding more mileage to it.

There is a great place called Port Royale Apartments located about a mile or two east of the Cypress Creek stop along US1. It is near where Cypress Creek Road intersects with US1, and is right on the water. You can rent a one-bedroom unit for about $1000 maybe less now since the market is down since I checked. You will have to pay utilities and cable/internet on top of that, so you'll spend about $1100-1200/month to live there. Also, there are a good number of restaurants and shopping plazas within walking distance of Port Royale. It is a really nice apartment for the money. They also have 2-br units if you need that.
