Brookings Institution's new study show that almost all cities in the States have shown some economic progress except for 5 cities and Cape Coral is again having the worst data.

don't most persons of working age cross the river to work?

isn't the Cape mostly a bedroom community?

Kroeran: Brookings, the government's unemployment data, references from Forbes, all case studies, refer to it as Cape Coral-Fort Myers. It is one and the same for their purposes.

That`s $9600 a year from a $45k investment...plus the property will appreciate in the long wrong. 3 homes and counting
45K? Wow! Thats about what the homes in burnt out Detroit are selling for. Cape economy must be as bad as detroit now..

NO, far worst.

Brookings.com shows Cape Coral among 100 cities, just like last year, is the worst in every category possible. Please just read it.

And yet the people of Cape Coral in 2009.....

"Most residents experience a good quality of life in the City of Cape Coral and believe the City is a good place to live. The overall quality of life in the City of Cape Coral was rated as “excellent” or “good” by 63% of respondents. A majority report they plan on staying in the City of Cape Coral for the next five years."

"A variety of characteristics of the community was evaluated by those participating in the study. The characteristics receiving the most favorable ratings were air quality, opportunities to participate in religious or spiritual events, and opportunities to volunteer. The characteristics receiving the least
positive ratings were employment opportunities
, availability of paths and walking trails, and ease of bus travel in Cape Coral."

City of Cape Coral > Government > City Manager > Citizen's Survey

Seriously, what would you expect when you base your economy on construction and service based industry? Yes, there is employment problems. The whole national economy is / was tanking. Detroit; Gary, IN; Youngstown, OH; the coal hills of WV. have experienced this downturn for a lot longer than Cape Coral.

/rant Repeatedly using the same source of information to pound the forum with the sky is falling doesn't work to fight for your cause. Yes, most of us have read the Brookings Report. Yes, we know that the area has an employment issue. Yes, real estate has issues, but in reality WE ALL are the ones to blame. We elected the people to guide Cape Coral. We are the ones that took out loans that we knew deep down that were pushing the envelope of being able to afford. We are the ones not allowing or fighting for checks and balances of financial systems, political systems, and judicial systems.

It's up to us to change it... /rant

Don't even bother to read Yoko'd negative rants any more........reminds me of someone that you know who is always whining and complaining.....you see them at the store and scoot around a corner so they won't see you.
