I am considering moving to Ft. Myers as my parents live on Sanibel and are aging and could use some assistance....In researching real estate in the $200-$250K range I see a number of seemingly nice, decent sized homes in Gladiolus Preserve on the market. Is that a neighborhood that has too many foreclosures and abandoned homes? In other words, is it on the decline or would you think it would be a good place to invest in a home there? Or would I be living on a block with all empty houses falling into disrepair? I am single, mid forties, no kids...thanks for any input...

I know this response is much after the question, however the answer is yes! Gladiolus Preserve is well maintained as of April 09, 2010, home values are still well below 2004 sales. So, in short, the homes and lot values are on par with current market. I am not an agent, but a visiting resident. There is only one abandon home that I am aware of in the entire community as of this post date. Efforts to restore the home and grounds is under way.

Very nice neighborhood, at least the last time I drove through it. Didn't see that many homes for sale, maybe 5 or 6 and there are over 200 homes in the community.
