Looking for advise/experiences with Birdville HS and Hurst LD Bell HS students with AS. My 15 year old son has AS and we are looking for a HS that can accomodate where needed. BISD looks promising based on info presented on-line. Does anyone have any personal experience with either of these two high schools? Thank you.

taught at Bell and has two students with Asperger's with modifications
can't go into specifics because of privacy of course
I--as a teacher--felt that the diagnosticians who worked at Bell were not always on the same page with parents or teachers--but I am not sure either one is at Bell now--I am retired more than 5 yrs
most of the teachers I worked with were responsive to students with IPs and their parents...

think a lot depends on the student, the teachers s/he has, and the specialist that the student is assigned to...
some parents expect more input--like emails daily to not progress or lack of it--which is not really part of the IP or fair to a teacher
some students are more main stream and some have more difficulty

the law requires that if a student qualifies for special needs that the IP reflect the accomodations and the actions meet those needs....every school can 'accomodate where needed'--it is just deciding on what the "where needed" actually means that the difficulty can come
