Hello All!

My husband & I currently live in N. Dallas. I work in Carrollton, but my husband recently was hired to work for a company in Fort Worth.

We have been living in an apartment in Dallas for about 7 months and are looking to purchase a home, about $150K, we have no children currently but are looking to start a family soon.

Thoughts on where to purchase? Our primary concern is the commute. Since we work pretty far from one another a place in the middle sounds good, but of course, one of us may have to drive a little further.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/ideas.

First area that comes to mind with your price range and commutes would be the mid cities area.
Hurst, Eulass or Bedford

Hurst and Bedford won't have "new" construction in that price zone but older homes in decent neighborhoods--

Euless north of 183 might be more difficult
you could also look at NRHills area north of Harwood--but that would be longer commute to Carrollton

this one is west of Hwy 26 in Hurst and in nice area--a little above your target price but probably negotiable

this one is north Bedford--close to 121 and Cheek Sparger--both good transportation points--and is in zones for best elementary and jr high in Bedford

HEB is solid district--and so is Birdville ISD

depending on where you work in Carrollton, commute might be problamatic while work on Airport Frwy is going on--right now it is going through Bedford and Hurst--going to move all the way through FTW eventually to widen 183

construction "improvements" also at work on 114/121 in Grapevine/Southlake area

there are surface roads that can be used vs the freeway but can have stop lights/signs, school zones, and slower MPH...
our son used to live in Carrollton in two different areas--
one was just west of Vista Ridge--took us about 25 min from Bedford--depending on time/traffic

If you would be willing to live in an existing home, you could get one for that price in Euless or Bedford.

New homes in this part of DFW are going for MUCH higher simply because of the scarcity of available land. To get a new home for $150k, you will have to go way out on the fringe of the metroplex, such as Saginaw, Alliance, etc. The commute to Carrollton from those places will be very lengthy.

just off downtown
my husband works on 7th St in Sundance
takes him 20 min in AM to drive from Hurst just north of 183 into FTW and little bit longer to come home in PM--depending on traffic and construction--

Getting to Carrollton is going to take longer and have more traffic issues
