Big news from Sundance Sq., 3 new buildings to be constructed in the surface lots (which holds the Chisholme Trail Mural on one side and the Flying Saucer on the other) and they will be office/residential. The open space will create a plaza for the center of the busiest part of downtown.

I really like these 3 designs-cheers to the architect(s) who came up with them... they blend in and harmonize with the existing architectural surroundings very well and seem like they will be a great asset for the location. If fact, if they are built as illustrated, they have the potential to become future significant or landmark buildings in their own right. I had feared maybe tasteful design was dead in downtown Fort Worth after the TCC Administration/Medical Arts brutalist bunker sprawled over the bluff and then rose next to our iconic 1893 Renaissance Revival pink granite courthouse. However, I admit the sunken plaza (largely unseen from the street) redeems it a bit but even today the juxtaposition of that stark concrete bunker with the delicate period lines of our historic courthouse remains visually jarring. And for the astronomical price paid to build the Medical Arts school building, the exterior walls should be gilded with 24 carat gold. As stated, it's great to see some architectural design common sense returning to the downtown area-this is really great news! Thanks for sharing.

as for me--I like NOT have anything to block in the skyline--
adding more bldgs to complete the "square" is not that important to me
it just means that downtown FTW is becoming a hotter commodity than it has been for 50+ yrs and some people ponied up the money to put up commercial space

David M. Schwarz Architects are the same guys who've done (or redone) pretty much every single building in Sundance. I love there style and they are an inspiration for me as an architect major.

I like mixing the classic design with modern, myself.

I am just waiting for them to announce a 60 story tower that would really make my day...I like the buildings...this should bring even more foot traffic to the central business district....

I like the idea of new businesses downtown, but not at the expense of the best patio in town. I guess I'd better start spending more time outside at the Saucer before it's too late.
