Renderings from local Ibanez|Shaw Architects for 5 floor building, next to (former) Americado on University & Berry.

Cool building.

Is Americado officially done? That place had so much promise (and great tacos al pastor), but they messed up in so many ways. Our last visit was among the worst dining experiences we've ever had anywhere in the world. Horrendous service... no wonder it was empty on a Saturday at 7pm.

If a rail line ever does go in and have a stop on this corner (as plans have indicated) this area is ripe for development. It's an odd corner that feels like rural west TX to me with the traffic lights swinging from a wire in the wind, train tracks, and a weird looking taco bell. It was even weirder when the drive through liquor store with high school girls in bikinis (las ramblas) was there.

Americado is done. Nice space and the food was good when I went, but the execution was off and access to their parking was wonky.

Last time I walked into Americado was the first. When I walked out, first thing I said was "this place won't last 5 weeks".

...TWO weeks later, it went under.

You missed it when it was decent, then. It was generally packed and the service and food were both solid initially. It went through numerous changes and just kept getting worse, unfortunately.

There's only been two restaurants that remind me of food in Mexico City here in Fort Worth (Americado and Paco and John's) and now they've both gone under. I'm afraid that the local scene just wants the rustic and unrefined tex mex they're used to.

They reopened on Magnolia as Paco's a couple of years ago. I haven't been, but the menu looks pretty similar.

I read that, but I've heard it's not that great. I've been meaning to give it a go for some time now. Thanks for reminding me; it's due time to give it a try.

Edit to add: Looking at the menu, I see signs of trying to satisfy the Tex Mex crowd (ground beef tacos?! fajitas, burritos, etc.), rather than the interior Mexican food that P & J's specialized in. Maybe that's just a necessity to stay in business here. Hopefully he's using the right ingredients (Oaxacan cheese, not cheddar or mozzarella, for example) and techniques.
