Commute from Grapevine/Southlake to Burleson?? (Dallas, Fort Worth: 2014, renting, house)

Hello Everyone,

I am starting new job this Summer in Burleson. Work hours would be 8AM-5.30PM. I am single Mom wih 3 children, 12, 8 and 3 years old. I live in Murphy/East Plano area. I am trying to find good school districts like Plano ISD. I am considering Keller/Colleyville/Grapevine area for moving. There is part of Grapevine in Carroll ISD. Also considering Colleyville GCISD and Keller ISD. Also planning to try for Westlake academy lottery application. Is the commute too bad for Burleson from these places?? I can consider other areas in Fortworth as well if there are good schools. I am thinking about selling my house in Murphy and renting for one year before purchasing a house in that area.

Please advise/suggest some good areas with good schools for commute to Burleson every day. I would really appreciate any help.

You do NOT want to drive from NE Tarrant to Burleson every day! That is a very long commute, which will be even longer when there is bad weather or a traffic accident. Back in 2014, I was commuting from Grapevine to the medical district in Fort Worth. My commute was usually 45 minutes in the morning, and an hour on the way home. Since Burleson is further south, you'd be looking at a commute that is over an hour each way on a "normal" day! Especially as a single mom, you won't want to be sacrificing that much family time to be sitting in your car alone.

If you are going to be working in Burleson, then you need to live closer to where you work. There are plenty of good schools in the southern parts of the metroplex. Burleson itself is very popular with families, and it has good schools. Mansfield and Midlothian are also close by, and both have good schools. In Fort Worth, the area that feeds into Tanglewood Elementary and Paschal HS is very sought-after by families due to these very good schools and community.

I agree with Christie, also research Alvarado schools.

Why not live in the Burleson ISD area? Always figured there would be some benefit to having your kids in the same district that you work in.

That would be an absolutely horrible commute. Easily an hour and a half each way.

Burleson ISD is a decent district.
Mansfield is large but still considered good.
Joshua is small but gets good reviews.
Aledo is a little bit far away but many consider it the best school district on the West side of DFW.

Stay away from Crowely and Everman/Forrest Hill

Aledo ISD has a great reputation but is getting quite crowded. The feeder schools for Martin High in Arlington ISD have a good reputation.

I have to stay within Dallas fortworth and suburbs boundaries. I can't live outside of Tarrant county. I am OK if commute is within 40-45 minutes. I would love to hear some more suggestions regarding good schools.

Zip code 76016 and the northwest section (north of Sublett and west of Cooper) of zip code 76017 feed into Martin HS and have good elementary and middle schools.

You can’t live in Ellis County? That is still very much a DFW suburb, and it’s a very fast-growing suburb with lots of young families.
