I have to drink lactose free milk- where I live, at Safeway, a 1/2 gallon is $3.40 ....needless to say, I keep my use of milk to a minimum.

aldi has been playing around with their milk prices here, testing to see if they can raise them. they used to be 3.29 across the board, then they moved them up to 3.99. then they dropped them to 3.59 and now i think they are back at 3.29. there is a costco right nearby so they have them to compete with, walking into a regular supermarket for milk is committing frugal suicide. i will probably be $4.50+.

my food prices have gone down significantly as i have become a better shopper when it comes to looking for deals and using coupons.

Ho many gallons of milk do you use in a week? 1, 2, 3? So, even the swing between the highest price and the lowest price is a buck or two a week, which is less than the variance that exists when gasoline varies by just 10 cents a gallon.

:0 Where I live the average price for milk is $4.25 for 4 liters which is slightly over 1 gallon, bread is $2.50 on sale and the lowest I can get cheddar cheese is $8.00 for 800 grams. I am a coupon user but never are there coupons for these three items....not where I live anyway.

1/2 gallon of 1%milk cost me 1.99 yesterday...
today I went to buy some strawberry preserves as the S.O. ate the last that we had...I paid $2.99 for an 18 oz. jar...insane!!

I have tried several times over the last 4-5 years to make my own jams/preserves when fruit was in season and on sale, but my attempts have NOT been a success...for whatever reason none of it jelled up solid enough...so I now have at least 18 jars of fruit topping for ice cream...maybe I should use it for baking quick breads/muffins...

ANYWAY...I also discovered that the prices have quadrupled for the packages of drink mixes like lemonade/flavored teas that you add to a bottle of water...I use those for flavoring hmemade iced tea that I make by the gallon...used to get them for $1.00 a box for eight individual servings...today I saw them for $3.99 for a box of ten packets...
think I'll look around somemore, or stop using them all together...
