A truly frugal person would not waste money on gambling.
I used to think if God wanted me to win the lottery, I would just find a winning ticket.
One day, while walking around the neighborhood, in the middle of the street was a lotto ticket for an upcoming lottery.
It did not win.
So, now I know, God doesn't want me to waste my money or my time even thinking about lotteries.
.
And you took the time to read a thread about What would you do if you won the lottery? and even replied to it. I think you just knowingly wasted your time.
You're assuming I read the entire thread; I did not.
I read the title and responded with words of insight and wisdom.
Too bad you weren't capable of receiving my post in the spirit it was given.
Let's assume it's a sizable sum of $50 million, and you can remain anonymous so that not every crook in the world would bang your door down asking for money.
I seriously hope to win the lottery someday and here's what I'll do:
1. Stop working!
2. Buy a house, hire a personal chef and chauffeur
3. Help parents financially and others who I care about
4. Donate to medical research and spread awareness about causes that interest me
5. Fund my own reality show
6. Travel
7. Be happy!
1. Pay off all of my debt.
2. Hire a lawyer and an accountant.
3. Quit my job.
4. Buy or build a house on a couple of acres of land.
5. Help out my immediate family (No cash gifts).
6. Build my dream gym.
7. Travel! Travel! Travel!
8. Go back to school to become a veterinarian. I would work for various shelters and rescues on a pro bono basis.

1. Put a half in mutual funds and have it spread out between bonds and stocks.
2. Help my parents out.
3. Give a big amount to my closest friends with the condition they never speak to anybody about where the money is from.
4. Buy the car I want - I can afford it now but try to delay the purchase.
5. Quit my current job and focus on my side business.
6. Set a budget and travel around the world for a year just for the hell of it.
7. Work on my site business and make it a success.
I found this question to be kind of funny as it is in the frugal living sub forum. For those of us that are living a frugal life, buying a lottery ticket is not part of the plan. So for me I guess just live my life the way it is building my wealth as I go and living frugally. LOL
I dont buy lottery tickets but if i did somehow manage to win a big lottery jackpot i'd probably rent a bigger apartment buy a more comfortable car,as i've done just about everything i've wanted to do in life i'd then probably come up with interesting ways to give the money away, kinda like a modern day version of the millionaire.

Hi lifeexplorer--
1) Pay off my debts (student loans).
2) Clear up the debts of a few close family members and friends.
3) Set aside about $5 million for some investments - property, etc. Mainly in land, but also in apartments and other development.
4) Even though I'm in law school now, I'd still go even if I hit the jackpot. I may be less concerned about my grades; but I still want something to do as a job after I graduate. Otherwise I'd veg out on the couch all day, watching the TV and putting on weight.
5) Call up Sankaty Capital and stash the rest of my money overseas, and only withdraw as needed.
It's a part of my plan. I spend a dollar once in a while for a lottery ticket. It probably won't help, but really doesn't hurt.
Doesn't sound too frugal to me. I have not lost any money on the lottery and don't intend to start. So many other investments that you could purchase that have a much better chance at increasing in value. The odds of winning are so bad that it is a fools game.
1) Pay of ALL my debts
2) Set up a secondary "back up" account and set aside money to be untouched
3) Help out family and friends
4) Purchase a nice house and car
5) Hire a financial adviser and look into investing
6) Travel around the world and give money to those who need it.
7) Start my own business, or just find a low stress job to keep myself busy.
1. Pay off what little debt my Church has.
2. Start a Christian School
3. Expand our inner city ministries my church currently has
4. Rent my current house out
5. Buy me another house (nothing too large)
6. Start my own hedge fund to grow my net worth
7. Travel
8. Pay off family debts
