I don't like to see a beautiful tree or plant cut down or fall down, but I worry more about people and animals. I have to reserve my sympathies on a continuum.
I don't know about plants but........I was feeling sorry for the red wasp who had been trapped inside for days, there starving to death, bouncing against the window, see the outside world but unable to get to it.
A cat came in and tried to get him. Refusing to go that way, he gathered the last of his energy, flew toward the ceiling and WHAP! went from this life to the next when the fan hit him.

the other night i decided to take my assalt weapon out to shoot a cicada on my house. then i saw some kind of wasps nest in the upper corner by my garage door. i shot it and all these wasps start moving but thankfully didnt come to battle me. i didnt even realize that it was totally covered with them, it was dark. i shot some wasp killer and it killed most of them. the next day there were a couple of live ones on it and i shot them then removed the nest.
im just kind of puzzled as to why they didnt attack me. they probably saw me and were too intimidated to attack me.

Which isn't the case. I just hated the thought of those plants laying there in the dumpster.
I'm so glad it's not just me. I don't like to see plants needlessly neglected and killed. They're living beings who may have a primitive form of consciousness. I'm kind to bugs too.
The sight of a severely neglected plant saddens me. I know it sounds crazy, but perhaps the day will come when they create a Plant Abuse Hotline.

As an adult, I don't have an emotional connection to plants anymore, but I prefer to see them growing naturally and dislike seeing them poorly treated. I know a few people who trample on plants without a second thought, and I find that annoying as hell, but I don't think a plant abuse hotline is warranted.
Some day, if it's found that plants are sentient, I won't have anything to eat, so I hope they are not sentient.

We-ll, maybe not sentient but.......trees suppose release chemicals in a forest fire to alert other trees to bring their defences up.
I'm feeling bad for my potted plants on my balcony right now. The days are getting shorter and there's a definite chill in the air in the mornings. We're about a month away from our first killing frost, so I know their days are numbered. But my balcony plants bloomed and (in the case of the tomatoes) fruited so generously I can't help but feel sorry that I can't save them from the upcoming winter.
Funny timing. I was in the florist section of the grocery store over the weekend. They had some potted plants on the floor. One had fallen over, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for it. I felt compelled to put it back upright.
I feel bad for those shrubs that all the dogs urinate on to leave their, "I've been here too" -mark.
