Cat ate my tomato plants. (cats, vines, tomatoes, leaves)

I had about a dozen seedlings (6 inches or so tall) and the beast ate all the leaves off them. She also ate the leaves off some string bean seedlings.

So...I have pathetic skinny little bare vines. I have planted them in the ground.

Are they doomed?

Leafless coupled with planting stress at the same time is pretty tough. All you can do is wait and see.

Tomato plants are part of the Nightshade family and the leaves and stems can be toxic. I'd be more concerned about the kitty! Hard to say about the plants.

Are you sure a cat ate them? That doesn't sound cat-like; they've got much more discerning taste.

I'd be more concerned about the cat as well, if it truly did eat the seedlings. Plants can be replaced. Is she your cat? Did she get sick at all afterward? How is she now?

Cats will eat the fruit of the tomato plant, haven't heard of one eating the stems of those and green beans. Are the plants doomed? I'd say yeah, pretty much. Get some new starts and use collars (like toilet paper rolls) to limit cutworm and other pest damage.

I feel for you - the dog ate all the tomatoes he could reach off mine. But, he never ate the leaves.

Thanks! If he stuck to tomatoes, then maybe he would have been skinnier! He was a champion snitcher. He could pull the insides out of your hotdog without your ever knowing WHILE YOU WERE HOLDING IT.

Back to the thread topic, we just noticed all our green beans have had their leaves eaten. The blueberries right next to them are fine. I wonder of our cats took a snack break from defending the blueberries from birds.

smart maybe, pissed maybe as well. Our dogs used to love eating the cherry and grape tomotoes but not the bigger one. Now the garden except for suqash is enclosed. Maybe our doggy friend (only have one now) isn't happy but I sure am.
