Someone repped me and questioned whether I actually got health information from Ancestry as I had mentioned. Yes, I did through conversion. I used the raw data download and then found a site online which converted it to health information.
I think I used a site named "What Else Can I do With my DNA Test?" And then "Genetic Heredity Calculator."
Most people (including the top genetic genealogists) say that 23andMe does a much better job at ethnicity estimates than AncestryDNA or FTDNA. For me the AncestryDNA estimates were way off. It says I'm 30% Scandinavian, 9% Italian/Greek (I have neither), and other ancestries I do not have. 23andMe did not make these mistakes.
Do you have an opinion for Native American heritage?
With Ancestry, my kids were consistent with mine, except what they inherited from their father. I want to do 23 and me when I have an extra $200

Sorry, that was me, normally I sign them, but submitted by accident. I was rushing because I had to get my grandson to preschool, I read it wrong. I did some googling, this is what I came up with.
The only way I could find to view my X matches was to download aggregate data, which in my opinion, most people won't do and therefore it's a bit of a hidden feature.
On February 6, my dad will be gone 11 years. He has a brother in Hungary that only speaks Hungarian. I'm going to need someone to translate a letter for me to ask if he'll do a DNA test.
I want to get the best results I can, I'm planning to do the $99 one on Ancestry to attach to my tree, is there another one that I should consider if he agrees? My sister in law told me she did DNA at Ancestry that cost about $200 but I'm not sure if it was with ancestry since I'm not seeing other test options. Does Ancestry have different levels of testing like FTDNA?
I won a DNA kit from My Heritage which I can also send to him.

The prices of tests have come down. I can't remember now how much the Ancestry test was when it first came out, maybe it was $200. They did at the beginning offer yDNA and mtDNA tests, but no longer. Now they offer only the one test.
You asked earlier about Native American. Mine is at a low level, but 23andMe and Ancestry picked it up, while FTDNA did not. 23andMe shows 7 segments in my chromosome painting which it identifies as Native American with one on my X chromosome, which I don't think the other companies take into account when doing their ethnicity estimates. Still it only adds up to 1.4% in 23andMe and 1% in Ancestry.
When did you do 23andme? There were tons of people that did the test when it was really cheap a few years ago. I almost went with them instead of Ancestry but I really want the $200 test when I can find an extra $200

That's the ancestry portion, which everyone gets.. The extra $100 gets you some stuff like this
Thanks so much for sharing your results. I can't wait to do my own. From what I see, it looks like they added some stuff. Does 23 and me ever go on sale any more? I kick myself for not doing it a few years ago

I've been looking at testing since 2012 when I was helping people that were adopted or had given children for adoption. It was pretty expensive back then.
That's what I thought that they only offer the one test. Not sure what my sister in law was talking about when she said she did a 24 something test for $200, but she said she didn't do it yet and she obviously did something at Ancestry because she came back as a match to my daughter. I wonder if she also did one at FTDNA or 23 and me because that would make more sense to me

The Native American is my mother in law's father's grand father so I'm not sure if it would show for my son. I don't have a name for his wife so I'm not sure if her fathers mother was full or half Native.
I haven't been able to find anything on her grand father except 3 people with the same name buried in 2 cemeteries in the same town. My MIL told me where he's buried but the 2 listed there have DOB's/DOD's (unknown to 1872 and 1897-1969) that do not match with his daughters DOB (1878), but the one in the other cemetery (unknown to 1881) does. I'll probably call the cemeteries to see if I can get more info. My MIL has info but hasn't had time to look for it.
Her father has a brother, I found him and his wife but have not found any kids yet.
My entire family received ancestry DNA tests for Christmas. 3 generations worth, which should be really interesting.
I'm glad I had asked you guys your opinions, AND that I had decided on the ancestry test as the first step. I was able to explain a little bit to my Mom, who is the only one (aside from me) doing any genealogy now. So thank you everyone who weighed in.

I got a couple offers over the Holidays, things like 2 kits and get $40 off or something like that. But, I haven't seen them on sale much. July and December seem to be the times, if it happens.

My mother is adopted, so.. 23andme has given me some insight, especially after having my dad tested as well.. it shows my DNA matches and whether they're Paternal or not. I've got a solid match from a Wierenga of 2.54%.. They say second cousin.. I'm thinking it's probably a first cousin once removed based on the fact that it's unlikely my mother's mother and father had other kids together.. Not impossible, but unlikely.
Unfortunately, that person doesn't respond to messages. My guess is that he has an Aunt who is my mothers' mother. Google has given me some inroads on that, but if the guy would reply.. It'd make things much simpler.
