Moving in two phases.. leaving for the summer for our new city (1800 miles away-- FL to MN) in early June and prepping our house to be listed while we're up there-- then coming back in August to pack up and move our belongings, as well as hopefully sell off much of our furniture. So, I'm in the midst of decluttering the house in a MAJOR way-- after three kids and 11 years here, we've accumulated way too much-- and prepping for a garage sale on this coming Saturday and anything that doesn't sell will be picked up on Monday and donated. Once that's done, I'll start focusing on finishing small projects in the house and starting to stage it to be listed.
We had this huge sofa sleeper. We sure weren't taking it. So we are out Sat, ran across a church lot sale for the kids group. Had a love seat that would work for staging, etc, paid $25 for it. They delivered it and we donated this very heavy couch to them. Opened up the LR big-time and we got rid of that couch. Big win for us. Room looks much better now.
Mom's visit was great. She still wants us to move and now understands why I couldn't be there by June, we have waaay too much stuff. I am so grateful. And I got to meet the new BF. Nice guy. His clothes are old and fit like crap, I told her to fire his tailor LOL.
So the house is nice and clean and the living room doesn'tl ook like a UPS pack n' ship center. Of course, I hid all the liquor boxes I was hoarding in the laiundry room, you can hardly walk in there.
She did notice how much less stuff there is since knowing we were moving and selling off stuff. Nice to know she saw the effort I am making to get us down there.
Yep, Cat, exactly the reason our house never got finished LOL, DH always found something needed to be done so that something else could get done, rinse, lather, repeat.
Lined up another potential renter for tomorrow. Also recycled some old computer cables at some ecycle place. Recycled old boxes and plastic bins as well. Who wants a wine corker?
Sorted the items for the upcoming garage sale. Cleaned and organized the home office, a storage armoire and a HUGE wall unit. After doing this, I've vowed to become a minimalist-- it's truly insane at how much STUFF we have accumulated. Yes, most of it is nice but little of it is necessary-- looking forward to getting rid of most of what we own, it's so liberating!
Agree there, ellys, once you get started the purge gets easier. Sometimes the sentimental stuff is a curve ball, so set it aside and don't let the momentum wane.
Going to pack up some nice glass cannister jars that are in the kitchen, they have been sitting there for months. If I haven't put them back into service this long I don't need to keep them and moving them will just be stupid. 'Sides, they were free from the church thrift so why save them?
