That is good to know about the availability of nice furniture and household items in the over 55 communities. That could be a very economical way to furnish your new retirement home. I'll be keeping that thought in mind.

I like Northern Virginia, it's changed a lot over the past 30 some years, though. I sort of miss the way it was back in the 80's and 90's but there's no turning back the clock now.

We're looking at over 55 communities in Florida for our retirement.

We considered Florida but the heat, humidity, bugs, tourists and hurricanes turned us off. I'm looking all over the country at some 55+ communities where the HOA not only maintains the common areas, they also maintain the lawns all around the homes as well. There is one of these in Ashburn, VA, called Potomac Green. Even though we left NoVa 17 years ago, my wife wants to return and that community is an option for us as I hate yard work but don't want to live in a condo. Potomac Green is gated and has condos, THs and SFHs.

I've decided that I've had enough snow and ice to last me. I'm ready for sunny and warm although I will admit that I love the 4 seasons in Northern Virginia. The changing leaves are beautiful although raking all of those leaves is a pain.

Potomac Green sounds like a very nice community. Best wishes for a smooth and easy move.

That is the start of one of my nightmares. A world where we don't own anything but instead move from furnished rental to furnished rental with the declining quality you would expect when landlords know that we have no other choice

I think that in the over 55 communities people sometimes sell their homes fully furnished because they've experienced health issues need to downsize to Assisted Living or move in with family and have no place to put their furniture; they are snow birding and decide that they no longer need a second home or they might be rental income properties that the owner is selling.

I don't see too many regular suburban homes being sold fully furnished. That is more of an over 55 community or vacation rental thing.
