I recently moved from Ohio to Arizona....mainly for the weather. However, after a few weeks here, I'm really having second thoughts. I moved on my own, and I know no one here. Anyone else ever move and then wonder if they made the right decision?

it's hard when you move to a new place and you don't know anyone. I recommend looking at meetup.com. It's all over the country. When I moved to Florida, I did move w/ my hubby, but at the time we barely knew anyone there. Through meetup, I ended up meeting some really good friends and it made it feel like home!

We're about six weeks out from black ice season in Ohio. Focus on not having to go through that.

You need to get out and go to events that you like. If I were there, I'd be cycling and looking for a cycling group 55+ (for me). Perhaps there is something similar that you like.

Please give yourself six mouths and at least once a week when the snow flies, look at all that mess in Ohio at your news station Facebook page.

I'm admit that I'm not overly fond of AZ, but I know there are a lot of opportunities for socializing, but you have to shut off the computer and get out there.

(I moved to D-M from Columbus, OH last summer)

I'm neither stupid. I know the weather in Ohio stinks. Nor am I looking for a pep talk. I'm asking about others who have had second thoughts. (By the way, wait until you get an Iowa winter under your belt.)

I already have. This will be my second one. I'm from Michigan. No big deal.

I don't think they said you were stupid, or maybe I'm too stupid to see it.

Good luck on the move. I have made moves, and have regretted them for sure. Did you move for work, or are you retired?

If you work, then I'm sure within time you will make some friends that you can socialize with.

I've never been to Arizona, but something drew you there. Maybe join some groups, and explore hobbies. For example, if you like to hike join a hiking club. You will gain friendships while also having fun in hobby.

Or volunteer. That is one way to feel better, give something back, and to also get to know others.

Gee..if you want to get out there and make some friends, you will need to resist this tendency to snap at people who are just trying to offer their opinion and offer a little personal perspective. Your question is kinda vague and open ended...sure, lots of people have regretted moving, at first. The rest of the question is....what did they do to make it better and feel more settled in the new place?

I am moving soon myself, and what I have done is sought out some volunteer opportunities, read the minutes of the city council meetings, subscribed to the local "what's going on" newsletter put out by the chamber of commerce, and joined the local Aubudon Society chapter. I've also chatted in City-Data with some folks who live in my new community. Once I arrive I plan to start volunteering at the local food bank and signing up to help with my neighborhood backpack buddies program.

Put yourself out there, join in and be friendly.

If all you want to know is if someone ever regretted a move, then your answers will be: Yes; or No.

Since you don't want any info on what people did regarding regretting a move or what to do to change your perpective, etc., that's all I'll say.

My answer is yes, I've made long distance moves, and for some I was glad I did it, and for some I was not.

Did you find that helpful?
