I've seen various ads on Google for companies (ShipSmart? MiniMoves?) that will offer to move small amounts of boxes/furniture across the country. I was wondering if anyone tried/had experience with them? I'm moving from California to DC and the cost of the UPacks/PODS seems really high for the amount of stuff I have (one bed, mattress, and assorted boxes).

This is one NOT to use:

My friend moved from NJ to Colorado, this is what he said:

"I flew myself only, the company loaded, drove and unloaded. It's a little weird because they give you a 3 week window not a delivery date.

They also lost three of my boxes including one of irreplaceable art I collected in my travels. I am hoping they can be recovered. Not so sure about this company.

The new thing is that they put your stuff on a semi along with many other loads for part of the trip and then make multiple stops. Its cheaper but it also means your stuff gets loaded and unloaded in their warehouse because when they pic up and deliver they put it on smaller vehicles. This increases the chance of loss as I have found out."
