I moved to Atlanta in '02 and had NO furniture. I sold everything and only had to ship boxes. But I don't really recommend it cause starting over from scratch is not easy. This time around I am keeping everything. So I buy only the furniture I really know I am going to keep for a long time now. Stuff I plan to have in my next home I purchase.
When I moved from KS to NV two years ago, I put stuff into storage and moved with what my jeep could hold. Now I wonder how in the world I will ever get my stuff. It is getting expensive with the rising price of gas. Thank goodness my storage rent is only $25 a month.
I can't understand how you' all call leave so much of your things behind like that. All the money vesting into your personal property and just to abandon all of it!
My father works maintenance for an apartment complex and you be VERY VERY amazed on the stuff people leave behind because they cannot make next months rent. Most of the residents of those apartments just bail and leave it all. How can you do this?
My father brought back so many nice things out of those abandon apartments like laptops, computer desks, TVs, video game systems, dvds and gym weights. Had so many garage sells; LOL!!
I don't get it. All I know is I am glad I never vest stock w/ those folks!!
Well, for me, its because nothing is really valueable. I'll probably give away all of my stuff. Financially, the value of my stuff is just not worth the hassle or the money to move it out-of-state.
All I have is a couple of TV's - the newest probably about 4 years old; my computer is a HP from 2002 and the monitor is so huge and bulky I hate it, a couch and a chair that was given to me, a couple of booksheleves, tv stand, 2 beds and 2 dressers. I have a whole batch of kitchen appliances, but they weren't expensive and can easily be replaced. Almost everything in my house came from Big Lots, Target or Wal-mart in one of those little boxes and you just have to put it together. I have no knick knacks or decorative items.
I guess it's because I'm just coming out of that college phase of just needing a bed and a tv When I move I will probably take my small 14-inch tv and buy a inflatable bed. Then as I have money I'll just buy furniture piece-by-piece. I had a friend who just had to have her whole house furnished and got it all from rent-a-center paying 3x it's value.
my husband and i just decided to get rid of almost everything when we move across country. it's almost become a challenge to see who can travel lightest. no furniture, just the kitchen basics, clothes, etc.. i get nervous when it comes to shedding my personal items and my large book collection tho
we can't afford a large rental trailer, we want to downsize in our next home anyway and we could use the extra cash if we sell everything before we go, so it works out perfect.
My sister moved her, her 3 year old son, a golden lab, two lizards, a box turtle and two friends from Vegas to Chicago in an escort, enough said.
