Maybe people are already assuming this, but I didn't see anyone mention snow tires. You probably don't have them in Seattle but you'll need them on this drive or when you arrive in Boston.
Ship your stuff, don't use a trailer, and be very careful. Driving in a bad snowstorm can be terrifying, so there's no shame in parking and staying over if you need to.
Just remember the Donner party. Who is a true friend and who can you trust?
As an aside... I visited the Donner Memorial, which is right next to I-80 near Truckee, CA. There is a statue there of pioneers on top of a tall shaft, and the plaque on it mentions the height of the shaft on which the pioneers stand was the height of the snow that fateful winter. Standing next to me was a young couple and a small girl, maybe five or six years old. They were trying to describe to her what happened (people stuck in the snow, freezing cold, bla bla bla) while leaving out all the icky cannibal stuff... the girl looked thoroughly perplexed, she looked around a bit, then finally turned to mommy, pointed at I-80 which was within view and earshot of the monument, and she said "why didn't they just drive on the highway?" I heard dad standing behind, trying to stifle a snicker.
Anyhow, your route is going to be a beastly drive at a potentially beastly time of year. Any chance you can be ready early and then make a run for it on a day that the weather looks promising along the route?
I found this on-line, which I can't vouch for in any way, shape or form - but it looks interesting:

If you have an iphone, there is a nice app called Highway Weather. It will show you the weather over your route and suggest the best date to leave. I am in a similar situation, only considering a move to SD. I do have a small utility trailer and I'd like to use it to move things I'll need right away. I have two dogs and a cat. Another app you might like is Bring Fido. You can plan for your overnight stays. I think you'll be fine but expect to take longer than it would take with better weather. And always take warm clothes and such, in case you have a breakdown.
