Come on....Buffalo isn't well known at all? Syracuse at least for it's college sports and snow. I agree with Scranton due to "The Office". Allentown might be known because of the Billy Joel song. Binghamton might be recognized due to IBM starting there. Rochester is where Kodak is located. Hershey is a suburb of Harrisburg known for chocolate production and of course Harrisburg is also the capital of PA. Not sure what to say for Erie......

I don't think the other cities are well known by the average person outside of their respective region. Most people don't know state capitals and the rest are rarely in the news or national spotlight for anything.

Buffalo will also be the most well-known because of Niagara Falls. So that's the answer.

They all are very well known by the people of southern Ontario who like to take road trips. They are all within 2 to 6 hrs. from here.

I used to be a Geography teacher, so I may be a little biased.

I picked Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany....ironically all three are in NY and the poll reflects my choices as the top 3.

I honestly don't believe that any of these three are WELL known, but that are generally cities that people have heard of. Buffalo is the most well known of the three, and probaly the only that people not from NY would be able to point out by its location on a map.

I heard of all them and I would assume many other people here on CD did also. Many of us are into geography and maps.

However I did not vote for all of them because nationally many people have absolutely no geographical sense whatsoever.

For us on CD, some of these should be a given. Albany and Harrisburg are state capitals. Buffalo is a important Great Lake City with a NFL team. Hershey, well is the home of Hersey.
