It's happening again. I'm seeing more posts from newbies saying something along these lines: "We're a family of young urbanites with small children. We're looking for excellent schools, an arts community, liberal thinking, friendly and welcoming neighbors, no bugs or snakes, lots of recreation and nightlife. We want to live on at least 2 acres, but want everything to cost less than $200,000. We want low taxes, low crime, no sales tax on food or drugs, top-quality medical facilities nearby, and scenic mountain/beach views. We want all 4 seasons, but no higher than 90 degrees in the summer and no more than a week's worth of 6 inches of snow in the winter. Is there a place for us in your state?"
AGH!

You forgot perfect weather!

I'm always tempted to answer such posts with: "Yes, it's called Fantasyland".

Good point, Fuzz, I edited to add that! Thanks!

Honestly, if growing up in a geographically beautiful, affordable, peaceful, friendly, economically depressed, multiculturally challenged and politically unappealing place and moving to several less attractive, more crowded, less safe, prohibitively expensive, more stuffy, yet more culturally and politically appealing and with better job options has taught me nothing else, it's taught me that "You take the good, you take the bad." Well, that and The Facts of Life.

it's like the saying you hear in business:

cheap, quick and accurate - pick any two.

I don't necessarily agree with that. People are different and everyone is trying to find a place to call home. While some expectations may be eroneous the majority of posts I've come across have been sensible. We're living in a mismatched society and as a result so many people are unhappy and moving. I read a recent article where it stated that people relocate at least 8-10 times in their lives. Sound familiar, much like the job changes. Some communities are going to be hell for some and a haven for others, so it makes sense not to waste your time living around people whom you have nothing in common with. I believe there's a place for everyone and the sooner in life you find it the better of you will be.

Unfortunately what you described is going to cost $$$$$$ not because it's right, but because there is "profit" to be made off anything that is good and healthy for you.

How about Compton, CA? Cheap, close to L.A., top notch medical facilities nearby (trust me, you'll need them), beach views only a short trip away... Compton does have a small crime problem though...

So basically you want 2 acres of beachfront property with perfect weather, low taxes, low crime, no food tax, with top-notch hospitals in the area...all for UNDER $200K...yeah good luck with that...
