Summer months Sacramento can get 15-20 over 100 degrees and a lot of the days are in the 90s but you are over exaggerating... If the poster wants big city life and overcast days then go to Seattle. If they're looking for sunshine then go to Sacramento.

No, really? I thought a zillion degrees was totally accurate.

I'm pretty sure there is a lot of middle ground between Seattle and Sacramento weather, as well as between "big city life" (which Seattle is pretty famous for not having, it's one of the major reasons people move away) and... Eugene. That's what I am looking for.

I'll 2nd Salt Lake - I lived there for a year without a car - public transportation is great in most areas. It's also a good airport hub, a nice family place, with a fun university neighborhood on the east side. I lived on the east side near the U and could walk to downtown when I was in the mood. A drive to CA is doable in all but the very snowy seasons, too. It's a city but very safe and neighborhoody, and not really too expensive.

I must admit that I'm dying with curiousity about whether your marriage is going to survive this (sorry, sometimes these internet conversations are like a soap opera), but best of good wishes to you and your family!

Chico. Your place is definitely Chico. You can live without a car. Chico is famous for its walkability and bikeability. It's a college town, with its fair share of hippies, but it's nowhere near as liberal as Eugene. You'll also find plenty of homeschoolers in the area. It's about a 2-1/2 hour drive to the Bay Area. Check it thou out. :-)

As for Chico weather, there are four seasons. It's hot for three months out of the year - June, July and August - but it's not that humid, and it's a great excuse to cool off in shady Bidwell Park and its numerous swimming holes. You get used to it.

Huh Chico is not something I had considered! That's a really good idea, thank you!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. It's ok, what do we live for but to make fun of people on the internet and be made fun of in return.

I don't know how you could live ANYwhere without a car if you have 3 kids. Except perhaps Manhattan.

Yeah, I don't know how I do it. I must actually be dead. Or, possibly, I have three dolls.
