Everyone thinks that they sound normal, but only because that's just how they talk. (You sound weird, no you sound weird! ) I, for instance, do not hear an accent when I talk, (from scranton) but someone else might hear it who is not from scranton. I do not talk with the whole 'heyna' and 'couple two tree' thing most geriatrics (like 60% of the people here haha) in our area talk. However, I am sure there are still some Wyoming valley talk I have picked up and don't even notice it.
I would say the Wyoming Valley is pretty basic English, but then again, it might just be because I'm used to it, am young, and haven't heard a lot of other accents.
BTW, I have only ever met one person who has actually said they liked the way people from the Wyoming valley talk.
Hands down, southern accents are painful to the ear. The exception being that very special Charleston, SC accent that Fritz Hollings spoke with, that is awesome!
A lot of you may hate NY accents, but they have character... everyone knows where you're from, and it's a great accent. Way better than those stupid Southern ones.
