I think this clears up which metro's keep the most affluent African Americans discussion. Very interesting that 5 of the top 10 are in Prince George's County, MD while LA and New York area make up the rest. Below list the towns with their median income:

Couple of things noticed are the absence of communities in the Atlanta area which obviously has a much cheaper cost of living therefore not comparing in overall income to DC, LA, NY areas. And as far as the designation of what some of these communities are I'm not sure what the criteria is. Woodmore is really a part of Mitchellville/Bowie, MD, just as Friendly is only a small area of Fort Washington around Friendly High School i don't know of anyone who has a Friendly, MD address. Kettering is actually a subdivision in Upper Marlboro, MD. But I am pretty proud to see my hometown Mitchellville, MD in at #4 in the country !!!

Those NY figures are low in terms of mean family income, as Hillcrest is at $114,516 and Uniondale is at $94,210. There places in NY such as Wheatley Heights, Elmont, South Floral Park and Lakeview in NY that are over 100k for this category as well.
