Yea, this is all about personal preference. For me, based on the four days I spent in Austin, it seems like a great city and a place where I could definitely enjoy living. But it's not a place I'd live carless. Chicago otoh I did very happily without a car. Again, based on just several days experience, I would much rather live in Dallas without a car than Austin (though if I lived in Dallas I'd probably opt for having a car as well)
