On that note, I'd vouch for Raleigh or Durham, even though those aren't on the OP's lists. I suppose he didn't consider them since he didn't care for Charlotte, but they are quite different in character.

I've been to Raleigh-Durham and sort of liked it. It's not too big; not too small. And it has direct flights to Hartford if I want to visit family, which is great. And plenty of jobs in my field.
