why is florida grouped with the northeast? due to so many transplants? than north carolina might as well be thrown in there too!
There's never been a large endemic population of Southerners in South Florida, and demographically it's more like New York than like the rest of the South. But really, it's just its own thing, it's only grouped with the Northeast for the sake of simplification.
I wouldn't put the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas in the south. Amarillo and Lubbock have more in common with the eastern plains of Colorado and New Mexico than Central or East Texas.
The entire eastern seaboard is the East Coast. What you have as "East Coast" should really be Northeast in this example.
Not sure why so many think the East Coast stops at MD or VA or NJ or wherever the boundaries of the Northeast or BosWash ends.
Yeah Northeast would've made more sense, the map is actually very good and probably the most accurate besides the fact that there needs to be minor adjustments to Texas. Although a poster already stated it above. Good job vasteele!

True. I guess when people say "East Coast" they tend to mean the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, "eastern seaboard" is the term used to describe the whole shore, but generally speaking the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia are seen as being more like the states west of them than like the northeastern states.

IMHO I think that distinction is made commonly by non-Easterners rather than those who actually live here. I was never even aware of it until I joined city-data and saw how many people from elsewhere consider the South to not be part of the East Coast.
The South extends too far into Texas and Oklahoma, shouldn't go past East Texas and Eastern Oklahoma. I wouldn't call Oklahoma City "southern" to save my life, or Amarillo. I know someone is going to come along and disagree, though. The South could also extend a little bit further into Missouri, too. Other than that, pretty solid map!
