ALso, I believe that when Ike built em they had to have 1 mile perfectly straight out of every 5 miles.....to be used as landing strips in the event the evil Russkies attacked us.....

LOL! I-80 seems to really have more than its share of truckers, IMO. More truckers on I-80 in Neb than I-70 across Kansas, for example.
Pittnurse, both I-70 and I-80 are major truck routes, but I-80 is a lot more scenic (IMHO) My educated guess is that I-70 thru the Rockies is a lot more challenging during the Winter, so most trucks coming from the Southwest take I-40 and most loads out of the Northwest are haulded on I-80. Of course, much of America's agricultural freight comes out of CO, KS & NE! (MAN, I love those Omaha Steaks!)
PittNurse, you're correct! It's an urban legend; I've seen it on Snopes dot com. HOWEVER, the highways in South Korea are actually set up to land aircraft, complete with runway markings and parking/refueling areas. Seen 'em myself.

Also, I-80 goes to Chicago and I-70 to St. Louis, which is considerably smaller. I-80 proceeds to NYC and I-70 to DC, ditto (though a matter of degree at that point on the east coast).
