Which cities are you most likely to to get into trouble you didn't cause when you're just having an enjoyable night out? I've found this to be much more prevalent in the Northeast/ Midatlantic than any other regions. Examples would be bar fghts of course, loud arguments, cops roaming through the premisis, tough street people, illegal gambling, mafia activity, and even just a general sense of unease.
I have found this commonly in Philly and Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NYC (mostly parts of Brooklyn although Manhattan on oocasion) . Less so in DC but its definitely there. Chicago seemed like it could have this commonly but I don't have much experience there. Cleveland, a little bit of a feeling of it but never had a bad experience really.
Places I have been to but not enough to really know - the Texas cities, Miami, Seattle, Denver
Been to the Cali cities quite a bit but never saw a big issue with the nightlife.
Keep in mind this is about major nightlife areas, not out of the way rough hoods.
New Orleans, Baltimore NYC (as you mentioned), Boston (in the theater district andiChinatown is VERY violent-fights every weekend, shootings every month), Philly, Providence, Atlantic City

Oh yeah Atlantic city for sure, didn't mention it because its small but certainly qualifies. is New Orleans tough compared to its reputation? Boston is a bit surprising to me.
Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square and Belltown in Seattle (especially Capitol Hill), can get this way at times. Nothing too outrageous compared to Chicago and New York. But it will happen from time to time. Most of the time people, despite how overpopulated the streets get, remain relatively peaceful, but I've seen my fair share of pretty intense fights, as well as me personally getting hit and threatened.
There's quite a bit of that type of nightlife here in Florida where the rap culture is prevalent in bars/clubs. SE Florida (Greater Miami) and Orlando are fairly thick with it.

Atlatnic City for sure. Chinatown/Leather District in Boston? Yeah no.. of course its sketchy for Boston.. but the only people would really get iffy about that nghtlife there are white people over 50 years old. Its not THAT bad. Ive partied there many tims and found it to be one of the safer areas ive partied in.

More like 70. People in their 50s and 60s right now partied at clubs in ungentrified neighborhoods (unlike now) in the uninhibited 70s/80s and survived just fine, thank you.
Pretty much any major city over 500k people is going to have this in some way shape or form...
Manhattan may the only exception since it has gotten so expensive and "high-end", but it still exists in pockets.
