Will this past census update the population counts of detailed ethnic groups? Italian, German, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Nigerian, Chinese etc, will nationwide and state updates be released like in previous census? So far, it seems like a No...

The whole census is a throw away. The numbers look weird fir starts but It came and went and no one even references it. Totally useless with data that’s next to impossible to reach without organizational affiliation. Sucks for us but amusing that they’re trying to pass it off as a valid census.

The 2020 Census FAQ page states that detailed race and ethnicity data will be released at a TBD future date.

https://www.census.gov/programs-surv...ethnicity.html

"For the 2020 Census, we collected detailed responses for all major categories (Hispanic, White, Black or African American, Asian, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and Some Other Race). In turn, this will provide the ability to produce detailed tabulations for myriad population groups in the United States, such as German, Lebanese, Mexican, Jamaican, Nigerian, Chinese, Navajo, Samoan, Brazilian, etc."

The annual ACS also has this type of data, although with sometimes substantial margins of error.

Yes, there will be no single year estimates for the 2020 ACS. But they are still planning to release 5-year estimates for 2016-2020 by the end of March 2022.
