According to Google maps, the I-84 east-bound guardrail is about one meter from the state line, but does not touch New Jersey. Sorry, you dont get that state.
Do you know any other near misses on through highways?
I-44 misses Kansas by 300 meters I-90 misses Michigan, by 450 meters.
I-29 at its closest is a few hundred meters from Nebraska, but never officially crosses the state line.
I-29 continues north into the Dakotas and ends at the Canadian border. It closely follows the Red River, which is also the state line between N. Dakota and Minnesota, but never crosses into MN. I-29 comes within about 500 feet of Minnesota (and the Red River) where it ends at the Canadian border. At all points south, I-29 was built further away from the river due to the occasional flooding especially after the Spring melting of snow / ice.
There are a couple of places around Chattahoochee, FL where US 90 is less than a mile from the FL/GA State Line and I-10 is no more than 5-6 miles from the FL/GA State Line!!
US Highway 95 ....near Canadian border in Idaho...just misses Montana state line.
Interstate 29 ...North Dakota....just on west side of Minnesota state line.
Interstate 29 ...Iowa...just east of Nebraska state line.
Interstate 91 ...Vermont....just west of New Hampshire state line.
Interstate 84....Oregon....just south of Washington State state line (double state)
Old Highway 666 (now 491) ...New Mexico ...just misses Arizona state line near the Four Corners
(they changed it because people kept stealing 666 highway signs!) (too bad I prefer 666)

I’m pretty sure you can see Nebraska (in decent weather) for the entire stretch of I-29 from near Mound City, MO all the way into South Dakota near Vermillion—around 220 miles. Is there any other stretch of interstate/highway that can rival that? I-29 through the Dakotas runs close to the Minnesota border for hundreds of miles, but not within view of the naked eye for the entire route.
Although I-68 ultimately runs into WV, while it is in Maryland it gets as close as 380 ft in Cumberland. It gets as close as 3,000 ft to Pennsylvania near Flintstone, MD and roughly 1,000ft at the Sidling Hill cut through the mountain. Likewise, when I-68 merges with I-70, the interstate follows the Potomac River which is the border between WV and MD. There's numerous places where the distance is no greater than 1,000 ft. I-70 of course eventually enters WV, but near Wheeling in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle.
Interstate 44, where it connects Oklahoma and Missouri, misses the state of Kansas by just a few hundred feet.
