Because some people stay up late. Some people work nights and sleep during the day. And some people just prefer a skyline to natural landscapes. This is city-data, after all.

That’s all true, I just found it weird two separate comments focused on natural views being useless at night. Seemed such a specific way to frame the conversation, when I guess the actual point was skylines can be nice at night.

That's NOT why it's called city-data. Look up the original focus of city data, it's not meant to be a forum for fanboys of city living. It started as a forum for people who are looking at moving to a new location.

Where is the lake in the forest option?

I picked forest as that's the most important to me, but what I really want is a house in the woods facing the Puget Sound with mountain views and a pond out back. That should be affordable, right?

Mountains for me. They’re the most spectacular imo. I’m really starting to like desert scenery though. Phoenix is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve seen.

High desert New Mexico has a varied mix of scenes. I have a mountain view across the Rio Grande valley. The mountain rises about 6,000 feet above the river and changes by the seasons and by the changes of light and shadow. Desert nights are mostly clear and crisp and the full moonrise over the mountain is stunning.

But the desert is a very close second...

I picked mountains for the poll because that's my favorite type of view. But really, most of the views on the list I enjoy. I happen to back to a deep set of woods, part of a county park, and it's very relaxing and peaceful to just stare out the back sometimes.

I prefer lakes and then ocean views. Not a fan of mountains because they create passes that are difficult to cross in winter.
