You have to go out of your way to feel unsafe in Austin. There are maybe a few semi-rough areas but they are small pockets and would be considered regular working class neighborhoods in other cities.
I would disagree as East of I-35 while gentrified is fairly easy to end up in an area that could make you uneasy or unsafe without actually being dangerous. Then North Lamar/Rundberg area looks nicer than it actually is.

Rundberg/I-35 is definitely not an area I would chill in.

Austin has it’s parts. But it definitely doesn’t have a Pleasant Grove, Sunnyside, etc. Among the large cities in Texas, I’d say it’s easily the one that’s most uniformly safe. Atleast in the triangle.
Lexington, KY doesn't seem to have particularly bad neighborhoods. There are some sections with lower end retail and multi-family housing, but in general it's a mostly safe and pleasant mid-sized city.
We encountered a sketchy neighborhood just off downtown a few years ago in Lexington when we were driving through.

I haven't seen anything like Sunnyside in San Antonio but I probably don't know it as well as Austin.
Probably Montreal. There is crime for sure, but it's not concentrated in any specific area, and pretty much everywhere feels relatively safe, even in the "lower-class" areas.
Only Montreal I know is not in the US, so not in the purview of this forum. If we're including cities outside the US, most cities in the developed world would qualify.
