While neither state is in the top ten for population density, WI ranks 23rd (105 people per sq. mile), while MN ranks 31st (67 people per sq. mile). Not a huge difference, but noticeable.
I've only been to MSP airport in Minnesota, but you could stick me within a few miles of the lake anywhere between Milwaukee and Illinois and I'd be perfectly happy.
Everybody cares about our cheese unless they're lactose intolerant, period.
I worship your curds, which Minnesota transformed into one of THE tastiest concoctions on the planet! I haven't had anything close to MN State Fair cheese curds anywhere else, even Wisconsin (much to my chagrin). Where do I go to get them in WI??
I love both, as they're the two states that I've always lived in. Its hard to pick a favorite but I'd say that my brain prefers Minnesota while my heart prefers Wisconsin.
Minnesota has bigger extremes. I know midwestern states don't tend to be thought of as "extreme" but my examples are that the farmland is flatter and much bigger, the northwoods is bigger and more remote with more lakes, and the metro area is larger and more prosperous than Milwaukee(and downtown Minneapolis is more urban feeling). If you close your eyes and point to random spots of a Minnesota map the different locations will probably be more different from each other than can be said for Wisconsin. Being the larger state has some to do with this but not as much as just the way the different regions are more sharply divided up. So I like the variety and impressive stats of Minnesota.
That said, Wisconsin for me has the intangibles. Everything seems laid out much more evenly and you're never too far from a small town, medium city, farms, wooded hills, or lakes. Its more well rounded and less predictable as far as what you'll see around the next bend of the road. The towns seem to have a more older quaint feel with interesting little landmarks(not that Minnesota lacks these either, such as the viking in Alexandria or Paul Bunyan and Babe). Wisconsin just has a lot of charm. Also I like that it has a bit less regulation(fireworks anyone?), and a few more guns.
I think Minneapolis is the best part of either state but Wisconsin is better on average. They are both pretty similar, together they are the best part of the Midwest.
I agree with you 100%.
