And now you don't. I live in a region that was first settled for its perfect climate and fertility. Even LA, while much drier, is quite a nice setting. I was a bit harsh in my description of the NYC surroundings, but it's still not that appealing without the built environment and convergence of cultures. As one who appreciates the outdoors, I find that to be a significant drawback.
The NYC area has many nice parts outside of the city. New York City water comes from the Catskill Mtns. watershed, making it the cleanest city water in the country. Jones Beach State Park was named one of the top beaches ion the country, going by water quality, recreation, etc. I've been camping in the Hudson River Valley and Catskills for years and it's beautiful. To prove that the around the city is attractive, here are some links to photos of the area...
Even our mayor coined the phrase the greatest city in the world. Politicians coined it. We have banners calling it the greatest city in the world or the center of the universe or world.

And New Yorkers are the most truthful people in the world.

I just can't let this go, but did the word ever pop up in these quotes, ever? Do you really feel NY is the center of the universe?

Thats like me saying "Im the greatest Man in the World" and my Mom backing me up!
Really...
No one cares. Life is much more than trying to convince others why your city is the greatest...especially on a public forum.

But thats not true any way. When a city has almost everything from around the world its obvious that its a greatest city no other city has as many things in on area.
I think London gives NYC a good run for its money. I also think it is incredibly entertaining that a post simply consisting of the word "truf" results in seven pages of discussion. Only on CD!

That's why people hate New Yorkers, they think there the best and very concieted and shallow. You guys get put in your place if you come down to Texas with that attitude.

I don't know about all that because most NYers are cool and different from folks in the "A" and everywhere else; I don't dislike their style and don't see it as rude (I know when someone's being rude or not). I do agree with you on that whole "center of the cosmos" talk and find it funny but to be fair I have proclaimed Atlanta as the center of the South so I guess I can't get on them too hard about that.
