After living in Florida for 29 years,we are getting ready to pack up and leave by next year.I think we are all sick of the rising costs of insurance and taxes and it seems NOTHING is being done to stop it.Yeah,we hear all the politicians make promises that we all know are just BS and let's face it,the price of insurance and taxes will NEVER go down.Have one storm hit Florida and watch the insurance go through the ceilingThat is why I say get out while the gettin' is good.I'm not waiting around to find out what's going to happen.GEORGIA HERE WE COME

Question moving out of Florida too

We feel the same way. I have lived in Southwest Florida almost my whole life. 30yrs now. I have been to Atlanta and the surrounding areas on several occassions as I have family there. The traffic is bad during rush hours and work times but our traffic during tourist season is just as bad. When we were in GA in February we thought the roads in the suburban areas where great. It was quiet. We really don't have much of that here anymore. In 2003 We moved to the edge of town trying to get away from it all and in that short time we have a new city surrounding us. Taxes and insurance are crazy. FLorida will become a place for the wealthy, you can see it already, they want to build housing for teachers, firefighters etc....becasue there is nowhere to live on $30-$40 thousand a year here. The pay here is also very low. Our house has doubled in price in three years, yes prices came down a bit but it has still doubled. We are looking into Grayson or Loganville.Or even the Carolinas.

Is homeowners insurance and property taxes really that high down in South Florida? We live in North Florida (Amelia Island) I just got my new homeowner's insurance bill and it's less than $900 and my property insurance is less than $2,000 and we live right on the marsh. I feel fortunate.

We just moved from Tampa to Snellville and LOVE IT!

Too bad the market is so slow in Florida right now, I'm trying to sell 3 properties but said to heck with it and just left last week to come up here anyway.

BTW, we have friends from Orlando that recently bought a house down the road in Loganville and are as happy as we are!

wow did you walk away from those 3 properties when you couldnt flip them? Happens alot. Those who owe more mortgage than their house is worth tend to walk away and the bank forcloses their house.

So many people are leaving Florida its amazing! I see some relocate to Florida but they are retired, rich or got a great job offer there. Im not sure if my mom+dad will leave Florida but they bought this huge house for $225k before the bubble. Its the first time buyers like me who are priced out and have to leave.

I'm thinking of moving to Georgia from Miami. It seems as though so many people are feeling the same way as I am. My concern is that I am a single mother of a 3 year old and this is really going to be a major move for me since I'm leaving all of my family behind. However, I'm a teacher and real estate in this city is unaffordable for me on my salary. I am coming to the teacher job fair, but am cluless as to what county is the safest to live/work in being alone. I don't know much about the city except for a few visits that I've had and info that I get on the internet. I need to be in a nice neighborhood with great schools, not too far from shopping, affordable single family homes and MOST IMPORTANTLY A HOSPITAL. My daughter has Sickle Cell Disease and I need to have an excellent hospital that specializes in this disease nearby. Please Help.
