I'm very excited about moving. We currently live in Florida and I'm getting tired of the crime and traffic here. The cost of living has also gone up and of course the insurance rates.
Hope to hear from someone soon.
Wht do you think of Athens now? We are thinkiing of retiring there and we've looked at several neighborhoods, including Bogart. If housing weren't so critical now-a-days, our move would be much more probable.

Smile Schools

Schools are important in every neighborhood. We are retiring but still think we want to live in an area that has good schools because good education improves life for everyone.

HI. are you still living in Bogart? My husband is going to teach in UGA and we will be moving in July. WE would like to live in Wakinsville but want to rent a house before buying anything. Do you know if is easy to find rental options in Oconee school district? thanks.

HI. We are moving to GA from Texas. My husband is going to be a Professor at UGA. Do you know of rental properties in Wakinsville? We had our own experiences here in Texas and this time will like to rent, know our surroundings before we buy.
thanks

Many good places to rent. A wide range of choices, from houses to apartments, to condos. We bought in a suburb next to Athens, about a mile from shopping, but 7 miles from downtown and campus. If you like the night life, get closer to campus/town. Parking on campus is expensive, so moving close to bus line could be helpful.

Will try to answer any questions. Which department?

dave

Brodave1916, Adhay is looking for Watkinsville, not Athens. There are not a lot of apartments, condos and such in Watkinsville. There are a few rentals houses here and there, but I really had a hard time finding them from a distance when we were planning a move to Watkinsville. We made a couple trips here before moving and found that very necessary for figuring out where we wanted to be. We ended up buying, which broke our #1 rule of relocating - but we have not regretted it for a minute. Lots of professionals (UGA profs and the like) live in Watkinsville. You probably already know this, but if you have kids who will be attending public schools you really need to be in Oconee. If you are planning on using private schools, I would still live in Oconee for the resale value. You will likely find a lot more available housing in Athens, but don't give up on finding something in Oconee. I cannot stress this enough. Good luck!

Thanks. A realtor recommended to my husband found us a house and yes, the school district was the most important thing in our decision since we have small children.

Hi! Thank you for your comments. We rented a house in Watkinsville and will be there by July 15th. I'm trying to get some utilities and I would like to ask your opinion about them. If you don't mind sharing the companies you have or know about. Electricity, water, TV, trash, phone.
thanks
Adri
