What would I do...two very simply things...

FULL Everify - immediately - penalties for employers and firms that try to fool the authorities.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform - so that business which needs immigrant labor can have their cake and eat it to (guest workers who pay taxes and work under the laws of the land).

Quite simple really - combine that with some better tracking of visitors and improvements in drones and security technology along the border and much of the problem will be solved.

But it won't happen - because Repubicans make vast profits from these people....in many ways, from private prisons to larger law enforcement agencies to workers who will do more for less and do jobs many wouldn't put up with.

Easy. But, as usual, the "do nothing" Republican Congress' can't agree on any of it - not even Everify.

We already have several guest worker programs. Those coming here illegally we don't need so why would we expand on our guest workers programs to accommodate them?

I do agree that we should go after the employers but that is only a part of the solution. Not all illegals are coming here to work some are criminals and terrorists. Unless we also deny those seeking work birthright citizenship for their kids they will still come and can live off of them.
Tag 'em with apple watches or something like that (not easily removable) and have they text message sent when their visiting time is almost up. Give a couple more warnings and then pick them up. I suspect, if done right, they won't need to be picked up...because you could have fines and other things that come into play (they'd have to pay the costs of being picked up and flights home, etc.)...

Or, implant chips. Sure, some would dig them out....but you'd have a lot who wouldn't.

Interesting. I hear the same argument from the pro-gun folks; banning AR-15s won't do anything because a 12 ga kills people too. I have a sneaking suspicion you're not pro-gun type

You seem to miss the whole point of illegal immigration. They don't want to wait. Pure and simple. There is a legal way to do seasonal work here but I am sure it has caps and rules. They don't want that.

Build a wall and use troops as secondary mobile defense. Arrest more employers and heavy fines. Post rewards for people to dime out people here on VISA overstays.

You'd be wrong then. I am a fierce believer in our 2nd Amendment rights. Not sure where you are finding fault with my recommendations for ending illegal immigration. The wall will help deter border jumpers along with e-verify to stop the illegal hiring practices. As for visa over stayers they should just be monitored better as to their entries and exits. It was another poster that made the claim that the wall won't stop visa over stayers and I merely said of course it won't but it will help deter the border jumpers.

Eh, may as well use someone else's response since they did such a good job...

Why do people say that Mexicans can just climb up Trump’s wall with a ladder or make a tunnel that’s right on the other side? Don’t they realize that there are going to be security cameras and sensors?

This question appears to be making reference to the border walls being put up in Israel to prevent terrorism.[1] That wall has sensors underground to detect tunneling, that wall has cameras.
That wall is also still not complete and is utterly ineffective.[2]

But, let’s ignore the efficacy for now. Let’s look at how well we can compare this wall with the US border.
......

Plus, some of them are escaping gang violence, rape, etc. They'll happily crawl through the desert and go for days without food just to get away from all that danger. Maybe that IS the type of person some American companies should hire... someone who's willing to do all it takes to make a living in the land of opportunity. Not some lazy American who already has stuff handed to him on a silver platter

It's virtually impossible to "monitor" someone in this society. In Europe, you can't check in a hotel without presenting your passport. Here, you can melt away the minute you exit the airport. No one can find you. You need a scheme that would make them come back to you voluntarily. Any guesses how?

If they were truly escaping gang violence, rape etc. they would be coming here asking for asylum not sneaking in here like thieves in the night. Most coming here illegally are seeking economic opportunity on the backs of the American worker/taxpayer. Americans have families to feed also and illegal aliens cost us over $100 billion a year. Most Americans were already working when illegal aliens took their jobs by working for less so your clams of laziness are not valid.

I'm sure our politicians could put their heads together and figure out a way to implement a good visa entry and exit system but they haven't had the will so far. It is just another thing that Trump is working on.
