Because like most nations others than Op realize that children are the future of the nation.but I agree that some parents are not financially or morally responsible enough for their children. I mean when government feeds many two meals a day at school plus give food stamps something is wrong with that picture. At same time they have smart phone which shows priority of many.

The fact is most Western cultures have some sort of Welfare system. Also the Welfare Reform Act signed into law by President Clinton, limits the time a person can receive cash assistance to 60 months, That would be 5 years, Some states are funding what they call safety net programs that extend that length of time,
so if you live in one of those states you need to get your state law changed. As for medical assistance, it is in the best interest of everyone for sick people to get the care they need, whether it be physical or mental health. The Food Stamp program, now call SNAP is run by the Department of Agriculture, and again
starving and hungary people are more of a burden on society than the cost of the program.

We should all try to remember that as Ghandi said, " Societies are judged b;y the treatment of the least fortunate among them".

Poor people should not be having children PERIOD. Our taxes should not help raise children of irresponsible parents.

Shouldn't parents think twice, and then live off the government.
the more kids you make the more money you get!

I understand giving support temporary like 1-3 years but 18 +years, forever?
where couples don't take responsibility of their actions, "it just happened" it didn't just happen!

I get your point but the government produces nothing. The taxpayers support those kids and non-productive adults. And how about not having kids until you're married? What a concept.

Illegitimacy is the surest route to poverty.

Zzzzzz . . . . . How about you wake me up when you realize that contraception can fail and women can be raped?

AND, especially if you don't want to $$$ for people living off the system, realize that many fetuses will have major physical defects luckily, some of these will abort on their own. Others do not and drain the system from birth to death via virtually every agency imaginable except the VA system.

Once again, abortion is the answer to all of the government's money $$$ problems in this realm.

Sure it would be nice if people "waited," if no woman was ever raped, if every fetus was healthy, if contraception worked 100%, but they don't, it happens, they're not and it doesn't.

CD threads and politics like this will always exist as long as the same people beaching about supporting children are the same people standing in the way of reproductive rights.

Yes, let's follow China's example, have one child, and eventually have a completely unsustainable aging population, where Chinese parents can now sue the child for not taking care of them in their aging years!
And they're going to need lots of help in their aging years with a stockpile of oxygen canisters, COPD meds, due to the debilitating effect of the omnipresent polluted air they breathe in!

No it is not. Do a little research and youll see that even 100 years ago China was the second largest economy. Theyre just really big, that's all they have going for them. If you have almost 2 billion people and everyone makes pittance wages, youll still have a larger economy on paper than even the best small Country.

And when did the motto of America become "We MUST be the greatest Superpower in the World!!!" Sounds more like a supervillains slogan to me. The founding fathers wanted us to be free, happy, and successful on an individual level. They didn't want us to be what England was in their day, a superpower......

Because the 1% has stolen the working class wealth in America using a biased media so the sheep do their bidding.
