A balanced budget amendment would be nice since there seems to be no intention of the federal government to address the debt. It would have to be done with a constitutional convention of 2/3rds of the states though (as Congress is unlikely to pass such a measure).
I don't think our society is mature or responsible enough to be adding or taking things away from the constitution at this point in time. Our leadership is as morally bankrupt as it's been in generations, we are bereft of new ideological ideas and our new culture of interconnectivity and instant gratification is in its infancy and has yet to evolve past a mob mentality. Any changes we would make to the constitution now would be ill conceived, thoughtless and opportunistic. There may be some changes that need to be made but by God this is not the time to do it.
So special interest groups don't have freedom of speech? I could have sworn freedom of speech was in the Constitution. How silly of me.
So where did you get that from? I never said they didn't have "Freedom of Speech." Everyone knows that everyone has freedom of speech. They just should not have the opportunity to change the Constitution. They don't speak for all Americans anyway, just as the KKK and other groups don't speak for all Americans, but they can talk all he want. Pay attention...

Well said. Many of our Freedoms have already been encroached upon, or just taken away because of how some interpret the Constitution for their own agendas. Others have been taken away under the guise of "National Security." What remains of the Constitution in plain language that these people can not change is our lifeline to what freedoms we have left. To allow tampering with them would be a grave mistake. Granted, there could be some that may be improved, but todays society are not the ones that should be allowed to do it. It would just open the "Henhouse" door to scavengers.
I always thought it was bizarra that the Supreme Court took the words "a well-regulated militia.." and translated that into the National Guard....who is under the command...of the US Army. i can guarantee you that the founders did not intend on that. They would not have wanted the militias under the guise of a government entity. That completely defeats the purpose of militias.
especially considering all the historical evidence that our present "standing Army" is against what the Founding Fathers wanted, illegal, and unconstitutional!
The Navy, yes, the Founders wanted a strong Navy.
The Marine Corps, as part of the Navy, yes.
A standing Army? No, the Founders did not want that. Thus, the "militia clause" in the Second Amendment. EVERY male citizen was to be a member of the Militia. EVERY male citizen was expected to have his own weapons, and ammunition. That is the way it was supposed to be.
It didn't last long...
Yes, I think the Constitution is due for some amendments, following the correct process. It bugs me that everything is done "outside" of the Constitution now, it's like the Constitution is just a formality. We should be following it more closely, and amending it where we need to, to keep up with the times. The process to change the Constitution is hard, it requires a lot of people to agree on things, and requires a lot of debate and hard work to get that many people to agree on things. This debate and hard work needs to happen, IMO, before the country gets too segmented.

Well, you said, "...does not need special interest groups telling the rest of us what their opinion is". That's where I got that from.
And everyone is in a "special interest group", whether they're a card carrying member or not. And, tapping into another of your responses -- everyone on this forum has an agenda they believe in.
Does asking for ammendments to the constitution make a person anti-constitutional?
No, because that is working within the constructs of the Constitution. People who seek to ignore or side-step the constitution's provisions, especially the checks and balances, but also the Bill of Rights, are anti-constitutional.
