House Votes to Prevent Women From Registering for Military Draft

A lot of people are against it but a lot of people also say they should

Of course they should. Equal rights means equal responsibilities. As it is if men don't register they can face penalties, fines, jail time and even be denied scholarships and such. Sure we may never need it again, but I view it as a principal of the matter.

And with more and more women taking up leadership positions and calling the shots I think it's only fair women have to bear the same burden as men.

Garchompa is right....but at the same time I can understand why women voted no to the draft...they auto consider themselves lucky that the house voted to prevent their registration...really. I can't imagine wanting to be drafted, especially when you don't believe in killing people....though I guess some women would resent that because it IS inequality... quite blatant and very discriminatory.

Makes this thread seem all the more ironic:

Women have fought hard to earn the right to fight and die in battle. Of course they should be conscripted. It's only fair.

There is no draft at this time. Why waste resources registering anyone for a non-existent draft?

Why not! I'll never argue the fact that women are stronger than men!

I say this as a proud member of the Men's Liberation Movement!

Women have always been the protected sex. In the courts, in the work place, and in life choices. Now they are screaming about equal rights. I want them to have equal rights and for that to happen they need to be in the draft and held to the same standards as the men.

There is no rationale other than sexism that women are not required to register just as men are.
