I don't believe any "science" from CNN. They make up "news". The idea of getting a balanced account of anything from TV shows is ridiculous.

We hippies were right to hump like bunnies when we were young. Old DNA is inaccurate through UV irradiation and copying errors. If you want kids, have them early.

You're right to be concerned about the quality of science from the TV nets. CNN closed their science department years ago, in 2008 - see O'Brien out at CNN as network ends space mission | Reuters

While the Anderson Cooper productions on the planet are supposed to fill the gap @ CNN, they focus on environmental concerns - which should by all rights include the reproductive future of the species, but that's very dark material for an organization that lives or dies by ratings. So I expect they won't cover that story, as too scary. Turns out the bogeyman is in the bed, not under it ...

Sperm counts of Western men are plummeting, analysis finds - CNN.com

Researchers suspect, and I concur, that this is somehow related to industrialization...the combination of substances we are all exposed to and ingest in various ways. This would include food, food containers (plastics of various sorts), air, water and other similar factors.

So, the debate question or topic would be whether, based on such results, you believe that those who have been "crying in the wilderness" for decades about environment, food and other poisons we have integrated into our society and culture - are slowly going to be the end of us???

Note - life span has stayed the same or increased due to medical intervention - so these things don't always kill us early, but rather cause hormonal and DNA changes that destroy our normal reproductive cycles.

Part of the world which were not fully industrialized 40 years ago do NOT have this drop in sperm counts.

So, your take...your guesses as to why? Or, do you not believe the science?
I've looked at this discussion topic a couple of times, always curious about what reduced sperm count has to do with hippies. I'm guessing that you are assuming that hippies were the "crying in the wilderness" crowd.

I view hippies as anti-establishment - men with long hair, Vietnam war draft protest, disruption of social norms of marriage before sex, birth control pills (nothing natural about that), and rampant recreational drug use. Bannon would be a hippy in the sense that he is anti-establishment.

Tree huggers, who are crying in the wilderness, came a couple of decades after the hippies.

This news is unrelated to CNN. When in doubt, especially given the fake news coming out of the White House, check with an international news outlet.

"Sperm counts for men in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand have declined by more than 50 per cent in the last four decades, a large research review has found.
...

Levine and his global team of researchers found no significant sperm count decline among men in South America, Asia and Africa, although they acknowledge far less information was available for those continents.
...

They not only suggest a problem with male fertility in Western countries, Levine said, but also signal that men's health could be at risk, since previous research has shown that sperm count can be a predictor of wellness.
...
"We call it the canary in the coal mine," he said. "If the canary dies, the solution is not to replace the canary, you know, to get a sperm donor. That's not the solution. We need to see why this is happening and to solve it."

I think some of it is due to all the soy they put in food now. Soybean oil is in everything.

Lower sperm counts is a phenomenon to be celebrated, not decried.
And if traces of additional estrogen are making their way into male bloodstreams, all the the better. That might calm the bastards down a bit.

It's worth noting that the decline in sperm count appears to be in first world countries. India, Middle East, China ... not a problem. Are you sure that this is a good thing?
